Cleaning for Airbnb Guests

airbnb

I love coming up with new ideas on how to travel cheaper. In the past, I always just tried to spend less money during a vacation or an adventure but now there is a way to earn money while on vacation to cover some of the costs of the trip … list your home on airbnb.com.

airbnb.com is an awesome alternative to traditional hotels. Homeowners can list their homes on the website and then travelers can stay at their homes often for a lower cost than nearby hotel rooms. I list my home on airbnb.com during all dates I plan to be away on vacation or for business.

In order to ensure you continue to have more guests in your home, you need to be sure the ones that lease from you have a pleasant experience and leave a nice review so you will want to prepare your home for Airbnb guests. Here is how to do it.

FRESH LINENS

You should have fresh and clean sheets and bedspreads for each bed in the home. Your guests do not want to sleep on dirty bedding during their stay in your home. Be sure to have fresh hand towels and bath towels available in each bathroom as well.

CLEAN CARPET

Be sure to vacuum before your guests arrive. I also recommend going one step further and hiring a local carpet cleaning service to remove stains and deep dirt. I use Lloyd’s Chem-Dry for my home in Denver, CO.

SHOWER/BATHTUB

I recommend you scrub down the tiles and the bathtub in the shower in your bathroom. You should remove dirt from the grout and reseal if needed for a cleaner appearance.

TOILET

This should be obvious but you need to bleach and clean your toilets before Airbnb guests arrive in your home. There’s no excuse for a toilet that isn’t 100% clean inside and out and you should have all the necessary cleaning solutions and tools in your home already.

LANDSCAPING

If you have a yard, you will want to mow it and trim the weeds and prune the bushes before the guests arrive for their stay. This will make a wonderful first impression and excite the guests about their decision to stay in your home during their vacation or business trip.

KITCHEN

Wipe down your refrigerator on the inside and the outside and throw out all of your expired food. Try to clear out as much of the food as possible in preparation of being gone and so there is more space for your guests. You should also wipe down microwaves and ovens too.

PERSONAL ITEMS

Place personal photos and valuables out of view in your home. This will create a more personal experience for your Airbnb guests during their stay in your home and you will want the comfort of knowing your valuables are safe. You could even drop them off at a nearby friend or relative’s home during your own vacation.

The money you earn from leasing your home on airbnb.com can help to pay for your current vacation or plan for a future one.

Must-Visit Attractions in Venace, Italy

venice italy

Traveling is a truly enriching activity; and one of the destinations common on every traveller’s list of dream tours is perhaps Venice, Italy.

The city has so many beautiful attractions to offer that tourists need to know about them beforehand to make their tight schedule more fruitful.

Here are some of the cant-miss attractions in Venice, Italy …

Mark’s Basilica

Built in honor of the evangelist St. Mark, whose remains were stolen and hidden in a pork barrel so as not to let him rest in Venice, is a must visit while traveling in Italy. The church is on a spacious piazza called St. Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco). It was created by blending different forms of architecture.

At every corner, the place is filled with great pieces of art, sculpture or architecture that is highly symbolic, full of history and stills attracts our eyes in its massive opulence. The church is mainly decorated by Byzantine art that was part of the looted goods brought after the fall of Constantinople, though it has treasures from other periods too.

The golden altarpiece called Pala d’Oro is indeed a sight to behold. The square adjacent to the church is considered by many to be the heart of Venice.

Doge’s Palace

The Doge’s Palace or Palazzo Ducale has been the residence of the doge or leader and therefore the seat of government in Venice. It has seen significant changes in history. From the Venetian Lagoon the view of this palace almost seems to suggest that the building is floating on water.

A number of secret passageways, hidden pathways, doors add a hint of mystery and history to the lavish grandeur of the palace that you just cannot tear your eyes from. It has works by great Venetian artists like Tintoretto. The Bridge of Sighs, a private tour consisting of a walk across it is a great attraction too.

Grand Canal

The Grand Canal, possibly the most unique part of Venice is a giant canal sweeping through Venice in a giant reverse-S curve. This boulevard connects St. Marks’s Square, Rialto Bridge and other important rail stations and bridges on the mainland.

Palaces of all the leading families in Venice used to open n this canal, due to which there is a number of Gothic and early Renaissance architecture facing the canal. A trip along the canal by vaporetto is an experience of a lifetime indeed!

Gallerie dell’Accademia

A heaven for any art lover, this fine arts museum on the Grand Canal is home to a massive collection of 15th-18th century Venetian paintings. It hosts works of Renaissance artists like Mantegna, Piero della Francesca, Bellini, Carpaccio, Conegliano, Titian, Tiepolo, Tintoretto and many more.

Teatro la Fenice

This opera house, a survivor of two big fires, one of Venice’s most famous, is definitely a must-visit. Interestingly, its survival reflects the meaning of its name, Theatre of the Phoenix. Its interiors are decorated with gold. Plush velvet seats and lavish carpets echo a feeling of the old world classic Italian opera. It hosts many ballet, dance, music performances throughout the year.

Plan your trip to Venice today!

Save Money on Your Next Cruise

cruise ship

A cruise can be a cost-effective way to travel around the world but that is only if you are careful. The average fare for a one-week cruise is around $1,600 but those costs can add up quick if you spend too much money once aboard the ship.

The cost of a cruise can increase anywhere from $500-$2,500 unless you avoid these expenses …

#1) ALCOHOL

Travelers will spend more money onboard a cruise ship on alcohol than anything else. You are not allowed to bring alcohol onboard a cruise ship other than one sealed bottle of champagne or wine. Premium cocktails and specialty drinks can cost anywhere from $7.50-$15 a piece if you aren’t careful your bar bill will add up very fast. The cruise ship also limits the amount of alcohol in their cocktails too.

I recommend purchasing wine or beer onboard if you are in the mood for a cocktail. Beer and wine are cheaper and you don’t have to worry about being shorted on alcohol content. I recommend reserving drinking alcoholic beverages when you are on land. Local establishments will have much cheaper prices than the prices onboard the cruise ship.

#2) GAMBLING

Cruise ships have casinos onboard and gambling can cost a lot of money and fast. A bad hand of Black Jack or hours spent at the slot machines can cost you hundreds of dollars with nothing to show for it. I recommend avoiding the casino in altogether. There are so many other activities onboard the ship and at your ports that this expense is not necessary for a fun trip.

#3) EXCURSIONS

I 100% recommend going on one or two excursions during the course of a cruise but you don’t need to go on more than that. If you sign up for the excursions the cruise line offers you can spend anywhere from $20-$350 or more for each. You can find much cheaper prices from local vendors if you wait until you are off of the ship. I recommend purchasing one excursion from the cruise line and then another 1-2 more from local vendors in your ports.

#4) SPECIALTY RESTAURANTS

You can eat for free on cruise ships 24/7 so there is no need to dine at the specialty restaurants located throughout the ship. You will find menu items that cost anywhere from $20-$50 a piece or just eat for FREE at various buffets and cafeterias located throughout the ship. I also recommend eating a meal or two off of the ship to experience some of the local flavors and cuisines instead of the standards served aboard the cruise ship.

#5) INTERNET

In 2017, it is hard to imagine living without internet for an entire week but I really recommend that you try to. Consider your cruise a vacation from your smartphone too! The internet aboard a cruise ship can cost up to $1 a minute and those costs will add up very fast! If you absolutely must use the internet try to only use 10-15 minutes per day and then be sure to remember to log off once you are done.

If you don’t spend too much money on alcohol, gambling, excursions and internet you can have a very cost-effective adventure during a one-week cruise and have even more money for your next trip!
