Contact Aventura - Freelancers
Aventura
is the adventure travel magazine focused on Latin America. We
cover human-powered outdoors activities in exotic destinations
from the Sonoran Desert to Tierra del Fuego, and from Easter
Island to the Sargasso Sea. Aventura is published in both
English and Spanish, and we accept written work in either
language. We are looking only for original pieces with
top-quality writing and photos.
Aventura
articles are professionally written for educated adult readers who
have some basic familiarity and affinity for Latin American places
and cultures, and for adventure travel. Features range from
1,000-3,000 words.
For an Aventura
article, covering the sport in question is necessary, but not
sufficient. Successful features will delve into the sensuality of
the place - the sights, sounds, smells and tastes that define it and the
feelings that it evokes - to achieve a feeling of
exploration, enabling readers to realize the full travel
experience. Nightlife and non-sport-related recreation
(interesting culture, history, fashion, customs, etc.) are
legitimate and desired areas of inquiry for a full feature
article. We want the reader to know HOW traveling to the subject
destination is unique and special, and what else there is to do
between adventure activities. Ideal features will contain some
premise that clarifies why the story deserves to be told.
Every feature should be suffused with a sense of adventure.
The writer is also
expected to provide content for a service information box with
interesting tidbits and informative website addresses where
the reader can learn more about the place or activity, contact
details for tour and activity vendors, places to stay, favorite
eateries, etc.
In addition to the
features, Aventura accepts freelance contributions for some
of its departments.
